Kathy was supported by Core Services and passed away on February 22, 2021 at the age of 54. Kathy came from a wonderful, supportive family and was a sister, a daughter, an aunt and friend to many. In the words of her sister “Kathy taught us all so much. I love that my parents brought us up always referring to Kathy as special, we always knew she was special. Never different. Never less than. Kathy taught us empathy, understanding, acceptance. She taught us about autism. She showed us that intelligence and communication come in many forms. She taught us that you can’t take life too seriously and humor is really important to your overall health. She loved fried chicken, Dr. Pepper, Dollywood, rollercoasters, sunglasses, storms, and her family.” Kathy enjoyed many recreational opportunities and her family has been instrumental in the creation of the Kathy Wilbanks Memorial Recreation Fund so that others less fortunate can enjoy some of the same opportunities.
